A Dissertation Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirement for the Award of the Degree of Master of Business Administration in Corporate Management (MBA-CM) of Mzumbe University This study assessed the contribution of Acacia on the livelihood of local communities. Specifically, it aimed at assessing the effectiveness of mineral investors on corporate social responsibility a case study of Acacia Gold Mine, to determine the extent to which Acacia has contributed on socio-economic development to the community. The study has three specific objectives. First, to determine to which extent mining companies providing services to the community and approaches used to ensure CSR‘S, secondly, to determine the perception of community surrounding a mining site on the CSR‘S of the company, thirdly, to determine the challenges facing Acacia Gold Mine in achieving corporate social responsibilities. The study involved a total of 137 respondents and data was collected through focus group discussion, documentation, observation from the area of the study and few respondents were interviewed. The findings revealed minimal contribution from Acacia. However, significant contributions were observed in the education and health sectors. The result also reveals that most of the respondents are aware of the concept of CSR with a few exceptional cases of those are not aware of it. The study concludes, that together with what Acacia had contributed, much more needs to be done as part of corporate social responsibility requires. This must be accompanied with effective community participation as this frequently one of the sources of the community being unaware of what Acacia was actually doing for them. Therefore the study recommends that, Tanzanian government should step in provide and increased involvement of government inspection in mining sites, finally, there might be a way to actually encourage local community participation in monitoring the success and impact of community development projects so that the relationship between the value of those projects and the wealth taken from the location should be considered and community projects should be well defined.
