Small industries development organization A dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for award of the degree of Masters of Business Administration (MBA) of Mzumbe University The objective of the study was to assess factors affecting export promotion for SMEs. Specifically the study aimed to identify effects of non-financial factors such as language barrier business skills procedures and regulations which hinder export promotion in SME's sector. The study taken a sample of 80 respondents, the researcher used several data sampling methods; including questionnaire, observations, and interviews. The relevant data were collected and analyzed to arrive at relevant conclusions. Analysis of the data was done using SPSS tool. The study found that non-financial factors are one of the barriers facing export promotion in SMEs. Moreover, the study found that 75.0% of the respondents said that business skills play important role to increase SMEs participation in export. Moreover, the findings revealed that, 55.0% of the respondents identified lack of one stop centre is one of the factors which hinder export promotion for SMEs. The study concludes that lack of one stop centre for small businesses is one of the factors affecting export promotion for SMEs. Therefore, this hinders export promotion in SME's sector. There is no one stop centre to help SMEs to exports their products. Also the study concludes that SMEs owners who possess business skills have great chance to participate in export compared to SMEs owners who lacks business skills. The study recommends that there is a need to create better business environments for SMEs, especially related to taxation, simplified business formalization and export procedures, and making easy the travel and exporting process as a way of speeding up engagement of SMEs in export.
